Thank You from Aflac Cancer Center

On December 21st, AFLAC Cancer Center thanks all of you for your contribution toward children cancer causes in the Atlanta area.

I’d like to add my personal thanks to all participants and, more importantly, sponsors of the tournament.

Thank you very much for your $1,100 donation to the Aflac Cancer Center & Blood Disorders Service of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. We greatly appreciate your support.

Your gift will be used to help fund the Aflac Cancer Center Family Support Team. This team, consisting of chaplains, social workers, child life specialists and school teachers, surrounds each patient and their family with the support they need throughout their cancer journey-from the day of diagnosis through the survivorship clinic. They complete the circle of care we feel is so necessary when caring for a child with cancer.

We rely on the generosity of friends such as you to make this vital team available to our young cancer patients. Thank you again for your gift of hope and healing.

Thanks again to everyone.

The Mayor Gives It Up

January 18, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

“With great power comes great responsibility.”

That thought kept Joe Mantineo, aka The Mayor, awake at nights.

After seven years of co-organizing the annual Mayor’s Tournament Golf Championship, the responsibility suddenly fell on his shoulders alone.

Would this Atlas shrug? Not a chance.

Although a proponent of the old saying,  “work never killed anyone, but I don’t want to take any chances”, the mayor ditched his beliefs and got to work. He organized like minded folks to help and in the end created the most attended, most contributed to event in tournament history.

The tournament had 48 participants, over 25 sponsors, a $5,000 putt opportunity and plenty of fun.  It was a great success by all accounts.

In early December, The Mayor had the opportunity of giving the Tournament’s 2009 charity of choice, AFLAC Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service, the proceeds of this year’s event. The result was a six figure check (admittedly we’re counting decimal places) totaling $1,100.00.

The Mayor, as well as AFLAC Cancer Center, want to thank all the participants and sponsors that made this tournament such a huge success. You’ve helped children in more ways than you can imagine, and for most of you it was only a matter of hitting a white ball deep into the woods. Repeatedly.

For that, a great big thank you is deserved.

Letter From the Mayor

February 24, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

As we say so long to 2008 and hello to 2009, we look forward to another successful year at The Mayor’s Tournament.

With a bad economy and a new president, we all should look to what we can do for our fellow man.

We at The Mayor’s Tournament feel privileged to have our corporate sponsors and personal sponsors being able to donate money each year to another children’s organization.

2008 saw the Empty Stocking Fund receiving the full $500 that we were able to give through the kindness and thoughtfulenss of each player.

Though we had less players thn in past years, I feel very positive that we will be able to break our record of $750 this year.

Our tournament will be held on June 20th. The cost will remain a cheap $75 per man.

As you know, any extra donations are appreceiated and will be accepted.  Rememer what we do is for the children in our communities, the kids who need a helpful hand.

This is what keeps me going each year.

I also want to give kudos to Julie Doerring. Her help has made my transition a lot easier.

Again, this is a challenge, but the ide of being able to help my fellow man keeps me going.

Thanks to all sponsors and participants. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible.

See you soon!
