The 8th Annual Mayors Tournament Recap

September 2, 2009 by

Not Everyone Can Be A Winner

Wow! What a spectacular event this year!!

I want to thank you all for being part of the largest Mayor’s  Tournament ever. Not only did we set a player record with forty-eight but we also raised the most funds for charity ever with a whopping $1,100 to benefit The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The weather was a little hot, but nothing some cold beer and bad putting couldn’t cool down. The 9:30 start time, rather than our standard mid-day start, didn’t hurt those averse to a high heat index either. The day was great with only one hitch, outside of the hacker swings I saw out there, and that was our scheduled lunch. Unfortunately it wasn’t served at the turn but left for the end of the day instead. Don’t worry, next year we’ll get it right.

Congratulations to our winning team of David Cutter, Ryan Kerr, Tony Fordham and Anthony Armstrong who held the lead from the first hole to the last. Click here if you want to see the scorecards and how close your team came to winning this coveted title. Congrats guys and don’t be surprised if you invitations are a little late next year.

The biggest loser of the event was Joe Massaro who lost $5,000. In related news he was the winner of the raffle to take a can’t miss $5,000 putt that was raffled off at the end of the tournament. Wide right and short. Some things don’t change. But alas, every dark cloud has a silver lining and this was no different. The raffle garnered us an additional $425 for charity. Thanks to all for parting with the dead presidents burning a hole in their pockets!!

Next year we are looking for a $10K hole in one opportunity. Early indications are that every hacker will be eligible. Also, I’m working on scheduling a Callaway Demo Day for the tournament. This might be especially pleasing to those of you who are actually still using actual woods from the Ben Hogan days.

Of course this great day wouldn’t be possible without the support of our local businesses. I want to take this time to thank our new sponsors who helped us out this year. The Shaving Gallery, ALG Worldwide, AT&T Mobility, SBA Global Logistics, DiGusto’s, Culinary Outfitters. United Marketing Associates and US Airways. Thank you for helping us help the kids.

I also would like to thank some new personal sponsors who either donated gifts or money to our organization. They are Don White, Joe Pergolia, and Scott Harper. These folks along with each player participating this year I give my heartfelt gratitude. Without you guys there wouldn’t be a Mayors Tournament.

My personal appreciation and thanks go out to Julie Doering who designed the invitations, even though she was on the IR, Pam Tramonte who printed out the invitations, Phil Mitchell who was part Ed McMahon part Annie Liebowitz as he drove around with me taking lots of pictures, and my good buddy Horst Hoefinger who keeps me straight with the website he has put together for me. and I couldn’t do without each year.

If you check the top of the web site we are already counting down the time of the Ninth Annual Mayor’s Tournament. Since we are always looking to improve on a great event, please forward any ideas and suggestions you may have.

Once again…many thanks to all!!

Joe Mantineo
